IMM-Week 13

1. What is a multimedia CD-ROM title?

A multimedia CD-ROM title is the window that pops up after you insert a CD into the comupter. This prompts you on the next step of what you are suppose to do, somewhat like a content page.

2.What are some application of CD-ROM title design? Eg. Educational. Bring examples, if any.

There are applications like games and softwares. Both titles would prompt you on how should you run the program for example, installing it. Proceeding to the next step, you would find yourself at the main page which leads you further into the game or softwares.

3. What are the differences between website design and CD-ROM title design?

The differences between between these 2 types of designs are basically web design would have a much wider range than CD-ROM title design. A website design is able to show more information whereas for a CD-ROM title design, it is summarized into just a few sentences. A website also allows you to link from one web to another with just a click and this is something which cannot be done with a CD-ROM. However, a CD-ROM would have a much bigger space avaliable for more creativity to be applied and as for websites, most of the things has to be compressed because of its limited space.

IMM-Video of Good Experience

This is actually about a piece of A4 size paper, being torn to a circle which is actually big enough for a person to go through. Although it is not done digitally, I still think there is a certain level of interactivity. Be it done in a group or alone, we are required to think on how to tear the paper and how it can become a big circle, thus we are actually interacting with the paper by tearing and cutting it. Lastly, the end result would be a satisfying one.

[Text taken from the post below:

It allows us to think of how this would work and how can a small piece of paper be able to let a person go through it. This question was actually thrown to me by a colleague when we were having our shop meeting. We sat down in a group and started thinking and tearing the paper into different styles to achieve our motive. Although we are just tearing our paper here and there, its actually a form of interaction between me and my colleagues(communicating), us and the paper(tearing it).]

Key words to describe this experience:

  • Surprising
  • Satisfactory
  • Challenging

IMM-Good Experience

DSC03460

Tearing a piece of A4 size paper into a big circle in which allows a person to go through it, without using any glue or other sticking materials.

Do you think it is a good experience?

Yes.

Why? Why not?

Camp in Malaysia’s rice farm.

Do you think it is a good experience?

Yes.

Why? Why not?

This is actually a camp which i went a few years back, together with a group of my good friends.  If im not wrong, the name of the rice farm was Kukup. Dont remember clearly cause it was quite some time back. It is a good experience because we get to bond with our friends and care for each other, like when we are all living together. This was fun as we get to make new friends and enjoy ourselves for that few days even though we are sleeping in tents. Running under the rain is indeed an experience that one would seldom have. At night, stars would fill the whole sky while we are having our camp fire. Rarely, you would have your good friends in the same group as you in camps so overall, i would say its a good experience which i enjoyed it alot!

How would you define a good experience?

A good experience should be something which is memorable, enjoyable and of course, not forgotten easily.

Any keywords which you would include further to describe this experience?

Productive, enjoyable, creative, challenging and exciting.

IMM-Questions

1. What is a web application?

In software engineering, a web application or web app is an application that is accessed via web browser over a network such as the Internet or an intranet. It is also a computer software application that is coded in a browser-supported language (such as HTML, JavaScript, Java, etc.) and reliant on a common web browser to render the application executable.

Answers taken from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_application

2. What is the difference between web application and web design?

Web design is using the skills of ownself to come up with the design of a website, in which a software is actually not needed. On the other hand, a web application is a software and so one is computerized and the other is mauanlly done. Web design is also about the creation of the web with its arrangement etc. Lastly, web application runs from the sever itself while web design needs a supporting software to beautify it further.

Web Design-Lesson 05

http://www.thisfashion.com.sg/

1. How do you find this site? (in 3 words)

Plain, boring, unattractive.

2. Who do you think the site is created for?

This site is created for shoppers who shops at thisfashion often. This site also caters to those who are 1st time shoppers in this fashion to provide them with the needed information. Mostly teenagers and working adults would be viewing this website.

3.What are the good attributes of the site (in terms of usability, aesthetic issues, etc)?

It can be easily understood and users would be able to look for the navigations with just one look. It is obvious that the tabs are at the top and can be clicked on. Usability wise, i would say its quite good as which ever page you go, you would be able to return to another page with the tabs on top, instead of going back page by page and wasting more time. Tabs are bolded when you are the web page itself . The colour of the text fits the colour of the background and can be seen clearly, not having any difficulties. It is also clear in its presentation of information.

4. What are the bad attributes of the site?

This website is plain and not having enough designs on it. It does not give me a feeling of wanting to continue browsings. No search engine and sitemaps are provided for users to browse in a more straightforward way. There is no objectives, no goals, no mission or values. They also dont update frequently and resulting in the fact that people would be viewing the same things over and over again. Lastly, there should be more pictures to attract the attention of users but not to the extend that the whole page are filled with pictures.

Though this website is quite well organized, but it is plain and dull. This made users lose the interest in continue browsing the web and would not hestitate to close the window. It is also not having enough interaction with users, be it visual or audio.
