Assignment 2-Research 1
After asking around, I found out some of the problems elderlies face.
1. Language/Communication barrier
As most of the older people grow up in the ‘kampongs’ they tend to only speak dialects. This created a gap between their generation and the younger ones as nowadays we dont speak dialects. We would not be able to understand what are they talking about and vice versa. Some would not know how to speak or read English, causing a further gap.
2. Movement
Elderly tend to move slower and blocks the human traffic. They have difficulties moving around as well. Sometimes, they might even find it hard to walk across the street. They will take a longer time to reach their designated point as they will always find a place to rest before continuing their journey.
3. Memory problems
As we grow old, losing part of our memory is common. This results them in not remembering many things and is a disturbance to life. It seems like they are starting from the beginning but in actual fact, it’s not.
4. Insomnia
Losing their sleep as we grow older is another common thing as well. They might be tired while sitting down but once they go to their bed, they would stay awake for the whole night. However, this does not applies to all!
Observation for Week 5&6

1) How do the users use this design i.e. explaining the function and usage
This device converts kinetic energy to electricity so that people would be able to let people charge their electronic devices. It can be used outdoors as there will be a spring behind it and the user would have to wind it to produce kinetic energy which then converts to electricity. It can also be used as a lamp!
2) How do the users benefit from it i.e. advantages or USP (unique selling point)
This product allows people to save money and energy. Not only that, it is a 2 in 1. While charging, you can also use it as a lamp which can allow you to save even more electricity. Other than that, there are many cables attached to it, which means that you would be able to charge the different types of electronic devices at one go.
3) What can be improve
We would not be able to know how much electricity have been converted so there could be an indicator indicating it. Furthermore, we would be able to know how long or how many items could be charged fully with one maximum turn. Besides, there could be patterns around it so when it lights up, the ‘images’ could be shown on the ceiling or on the walls.

1) How do the users use this design i.e. explaining the function and usage
A multitouch table which can be connected to an iphone for bigger touchscreen surface. This has been created due to the fact that some users complained about the size of the screen of the phone is too small.
2) How do the users benefit from it i.e. advantages or USP (unique selling point)
It now has a much bigger surface which would be easier for people with poor eyesight to look at it. It also allows users to type more easily with the huge buttons and also watch videos with a bigger surface area. The whole table is fully functional and works like a mega phone just that it does not have wifi to it.
3) What can be improve
Although this screen is big but there would be some disadvantages for example, one would have to travel from one side to another if the icons they wanted is on the other side. The screen could be make smaller or they could have a mouse by the side to navigate as well. Although some might prefer touch screen but the mouse would be more convenient at times.

Observation for Week 4
1) How do the users use this design i.e. explaining the function and usage
This is an portable keyboard for smartphones like iphones, Blackberry etc. As we all know, phones are very small and the keypad for it is usually very small as well. This will come into use as people would be able to type easily and quickly. Besides that, it would very much be like a mini laptop.
2) How do the users benefit from it i.e. advantages or USP (unique selling point)
As you can see, there is a cradle for the phone. This allows users to put their phones there and they would not have to strain their necks bending down when the phone is lying flat on the table. It is also detachable. Secondly, the whole keyboard is actually foldable. When folded, the keyboard becomes rather compact and can be easily carried in a pocket or bag.
3) What can be improve
Maybe, it could come with a small screen. Although there are smartphones with big screens (iphones), there are also those with small screens (Blackberry). It will cause inconvenience for people who are sitting a little faraway from their keyboard typing. However, even if it does comes with a screen, it should be at a reasonable size as one of the objective for the whole product is still how it can be kept in a pocket or bag.
Obersavation for Week 3
1) How do the users use this design i.e. explaining the function and usage
Users are able to sit comfortably on this rocking chair during their leisure time reading, talking or even watching the television. Basically, this chair can be used like any other chair.
2) How do the users benefit from it i.e. advantages or USP (unique selling point)
Firstly it has a light on top of it. When users are reading books or newspapers in a darker area, they would be able to make use of the light. Since it is only a small light, it would not bother the rest of the family members if they are already sleeping in the dark. Secondly, the whole design of this chair is shaped like an arc and therefore, it can be used as a decorative item as well!
3) What can be improve
Although this chair looks nice but I believe it will take up more space then the usual chairs do. So maybe it can be designed in such a way whereby not so much space would be take. Furthermore, a small table could be added in front of the chair so users are able to put their books on top or they can even eat their meals on the chair. Because this is a rocking chair, the table should have a specific shape or dents so they the things on top of it will not fall off.

The tip of this nail clipper is shaped like the handle of a pair of scissors. It allows users to be able to cut their nails easily as they can grab it well. For the normal nail clippers, it would usually slip off our hands but with this, it is more secure!

This bottle is designed in a way whereby the big bottle is the normal bottle which we use to hold water while around the body, it has a place to put small cups. This is convenient when serving guests as you would not have to hold onto too many things.
Spooky? Adorable?!

This is what I find adorable!
To make it even more adorable, it should become a ice cream friend. Every time you talk to it, it will do something cute. For example, dancing around, jumping or even answering back with a very sweet voice!

Toilet cubicle when it is very dark.
When it’s dark, you would not be able to see very clearly. There might be something creepy around and you wont know what will happen next! Imagine it sucks everything in around it at night, including humans. It may be very calm in the day but at night, it turns into something else!
